Dr. Prakash P Kotwal is currently the Professor and Head of Department of Orthopaedics, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, INDIA. He completed his graduation in 1973 and his post graduation MS (Orthopaedics) in 1976 from MGM Medical College, Indore. He is a Fellow of International Medical Sciences Academy (FIMSA) and National Academy of Medical Sciences, (FAMS). He is a visiting Professor of Orthopaedics at B. P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Nepal.

Pioneered Hand and Micro vascular Surgery in India, he established advanced hand and micro-vascular surgical facilities at AIIMS in 1982. His areas of expertise is Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery. He has extensive experience in Trauma of the upper extremity, Replacement Surgery of joints of the Upper Extremity, Tendon Transfers in Hand, Micro-vascular surgery of Hand, Reconstructive surgery and Sports Injury of Hand.

He is the Founder Chairman of the Hand Section of Indian Orthopaedic Association to further the Science of Hand Surgery in the country, Vice President of Indian Society for Surgery of The Hand (ISSH) , 2012- 2014 and President of Indian Society for Surgery of The Hand (ISSH) , 2014- 2016.

3. “The Paul R Manske Award” for 2013 for the Best Upper Extremity Congenital Research Manuscript entitled “ A Comparison of Surgical Treatment and Non- operative Management for Radial Longitudinal Deficiency” Published in the J. Hand Surgery (European Volume) in 2012. Awarded as having the greatest impact on the surgical care of the child’s hand for the best upper extremity congenital research manuscript published in the “Journal of Hand Surgery”. 
4. Johnson and Johnson and Roaf Traveling Fellowship awarded by the Indian Orthopaedic Association, for a period of six weeks in 1988.

1. Honorary Consultant to the Hon’ble Vice President of India during the period 2002-2003.
