Dr. Lalit Kapoor is a Practicing General and Gastro-intestinal Surgeon for the past 4+ decades. He is also the Medical Director and Surgeon at Shakuntala Memorial Hospital, Andheri, Chief Surgeon at Suchak Hospital and Research Centre, Malad and a Consultant Surgeon at ONGC.

He is the Founder member and Past Managing Trustee of Association of Medical Consultants Mumbai started in 1972. It is an Association of over 8000 Consultant doctors of all specialities. Presently, he is the Director of AMC India Project and Medico-legal Advisor to AMC.

He is also the Founder-member of Forum of Health care Standards (FSH) –a Body which established an Accreditation Council for Voluntary Accreditation of Nursing homes and hospitals. As a result of his efforts, almost 200 nursing homes have received Accreditation Certificates as on date.

He is one of the most sought-after medico-legal consultants in the city of Mumbai. He has guided and helped over 1000 doctors to date including General Practitioners and Consultants by legal assistance. He has fought on behalf of members of the Association against false and defamatory reporting by media including electronic media. All this assistance has been given selflessly and without any obligation whatsoever.

He is a forceful public speaker and has delivered over 3000 talks on Medico-Legal aspects of medical practice including the implications of the Consumer Protection Act on doctors and society all over India. Some of his notable orations are:

He is the author of a very popular column in GRASP (AMC publication) entitled DOS AND DONTS – a feature that educates doctors on the preventive aspects of medico-legal problems.

He was conferred with Lifetime Achievement by IMA Thane in 2013. He was also awarded ‘Life Time Achievement Award’ by Association of Medical Consultants in 2011. Also, he has been honoured by Indian Medical association, Mumbai West branch on Doctors’ Day in 2002 for his selfless contribution towards the cause of the medical profession.

He is an alumnus of the prestigious Grant Medical College, Bombay University and was awarded three gold medals (Dr. A.P.Bacha Memorial Gold Medal and Prize; Dr. C.S Patel Gold Medal in Surgery; Dr. S.R Moolgaonkar Gold Medal) and a prize for passing his postgraduate exams with highest degree of proficiency.
